Artist's Statement
Bell Museum Series:
My love of biological forms and processes
translates to the structures of the natural world. This image is one of a
series of drawings made from a deer skeleton in the Bell Museum of Natural
History's "Touch and See Room," a unique place where children and adults can
pore through bones, furs, feathers and all kinds of natural specimens. The
organic shapes of this skeleton were fascinating to draw, and the patterns of
positive and negative shapes made by the ribcage present endless variations
depending on your viewpoint. I hope to continue this series, exploring more of
the beautiful colors, contours and shadows of the world's creations.
